The Messenger - July/August 2014

After this

"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and..." Luke 16.22.

But moments ago, I dying lay
Beside the gate where day by day,
I watched the rich man come and go,
Hoping he might some kindness show.
He passed me by, without a smile,
Though I was starving all the while,
But then a voice did kindly say,
"I'm going to bring you home today."
My pains are gone, I have no fears,
I am with Christ, I shed no tears:
In heaven I'm forever blest,
All suff'ring ended, now at rest.

"The rich man also died, and was buried, And..." Luke 16.22,23.

It seemed as if I had no need,
Fine clothes did wear and daily feed
On sumptuous fare and choicest wine,
But thought not of this soul of mine.
I lived for self, gave God no place
In my short life, but set my face
To enjoy sin and pleasures mad,
But lost the greatest thing I had,
My precious soul, and now in hell,
I must resign myself to dwell
In darkest night and endless gloom;
I'm lost and changeless is my doom.

"...it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment"
Hebrews 9.27.

And you, my friend, when life is o'er,
Will you to heaven upwards soar,
To be with Christ through endless day,
To sing, to praise His name for aye;
To look upon that once-marred face,
Thankful that you were saved by grace?
Or will you downward drop to hell,
The laments of the damned to swell,
To weep, to wail, in endless pain,
Tormented in unquenchèd flame?
Why not, just now, on Christ rely,
Be sure of heaven when you die!

Good news in brief

"Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world. Both low, rich and poor together." Psalm 49v1-2

"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Hebrews 9.27

Our years on earth are when we prepare for eternity – heaven or hell.

Now is the time when we repent of our sins and "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" ("Christ died for our sins" 1Cor 15v3. He was punished for our sins, His blood was shed to cleanse us from our sins. 1John 1.7)

Now is the time to "show repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" Acts 20.21

"Behold now is the day of salvation" 2Cor 6.2
For after death the judgement.

Bible Verse

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26.18)
